Fashion designer Bob Mackie, sharing his thoughts on the Leh shapes of Inside Edition, said, “Nothing was meant to be covered up. Most regular women can’t fit into that attire. It’s too beautiful.” Throughout the evening, Miley Cyrus remained the talk of the town, changing outfits at least four times to sizzle with stunners – Tom Ford, Gucci, Bob Mackie, and Mason Margiela.

She arrived on the red carpet for the 66th Annual Awards ceremony in a custom-made, gold Mason Margiela artisanal dress, featuring hair inspired by the 1968 film “Barbarella,” giving Jane Fonda throwback vibes. According to the fashion house, this dress was designed by their creative director John Galliano and crafted at Mason’s haute couture Atelier. 14,000 safety pins and 675 hours of labor were required to complete the task.

Iconic Bob Mackie Ensemble Takes Center Stage in Miley Cyrus’s Grammy Performance

The 31-year-old Miley Cyrus, who won her first and second Grammy Awards last night for Best Solo Performance and Record of the Year, changed her attire once again to perform “Flower” and pulled a look from renowned costume designer Bob Mackie’s archives.

She stunned in some colorful sequins from Mackie’s 2002 ‘Too Broadway with Love’ collection, adorned with silver and crystal-studded silk chiffon and musical “Sweet Charity” inspired. Just a few weeks ago, on January 19th, it was Dolly Parton’s birthday, and Bob Mackie’s team went to Cyrus’s Hollywood Hills home to dress her up. It fits like a glove. Sharing with Inside Edition, Bob Mackie said, “Nothing was meant to be covered up. Most regular women can’t fit into that attire. It’s too beautifully tailored.” “Everything fits her like a fashion model.”

24-year-old Mackie’s design director, who MacFet told Inside Edition Digital, said, “It was like it was made in heaven at the same time. We tweaked a hook and an eye quite honestly. That was the smallest change.” “She choreographed all of her glass for me. She’s amazing.”

To pick out outfits, Mackie’s team went back and forth with Miley’s team to see pictures of her collection.

MacFet revealed, “I was keeping that picture with me because I thought that outfit was Miley Cyrus’s outfit. So as soon as I sent her that picture, she said, ‘I have to have that outfit.’ But for a while, she couldn’t get it. The ensemble was kept in Mackie’s sixty-year-old, huge collection.

“You can imagine we were trying to break our hair, okay, I wasn’t breaking any hair, but I was watching. And believe me, when we got that outfit and put it on her, she was like a child. She desired that outfit. As soon as she saw it, she said, ‘That’s it.’ And when an artist gets that kind of reaction to clothes, they’re reassured.”

Later that night, backstage, Cyrus was photographed in a black mannequin fringe with lace bustier and pants with a mannequin fringe trim feather shrug. This attire was also from Bob Mackie’s 2002 ‘Too Broadway with Love’ collection.

Bob Mackie’s Magic: Dressing Up Music Legends and Hollywood Stars in Iconic Style

In 2002, he prepared archival costumes for Bob Mackie for his ABC New Year’s Eve show performance of “Midnight Sky.” This outfit, hand-painted, was a fringed outfit with rainbow mannequins of silk and silver, also from his 2002 “Too Broadway with Love” collection. In 2021, she wore a black sequin fringe dress by Bob Mackie while hosting a promotional campaign for the New Year’s Eve party live from Miami with Pit Davidson on NBC and Peacock TV.

MacFet spoke about working with the singer, saying, “She’s very humble and respects Bob’s history a lot, so we immediately fell in love with her.”

Throughout his career, Mackie has designed some of the most iconic costumes for some of the most influential figures, including Cher, Pink, Liza Minnelli, Diana Ross, Bernadette Peters, and the entire wardrobe for “The Carol Burnett Show.” Don’t forget – he’s also designed many “Barbie” costumes.

What is it about Bob Mackie that inspires such icons? Bob doesn’t even know. Mackie says, “I still haven’t figured that out, although I think I understand artists and I understand what they like when they come out and what the audience responds to in a certain way.”

Following this, Mackie worked again with Burnett to style her for press events for the premiere of “Pam & Tommy” on AppleTV+.

A documentary about his life directed by Matthew Miele is expected to be released at the end of this year.
